The project is situated at a bustling junction between the Kahawa Sukari and Wendani areas on the outskirts of Nairobi. The two regions have disticnt demograhic characteristics that influenced the architectural expression of the project. The design journey begins with classical revival theme and transitions to a modernistic stylistic approach, drawing inspiration from various submovements within modern architecture. Ultimately, the project seeks to find consensus between these architectural movements, mirroring the diverse demographics of the junction site.

The 300-person sanctuary in Kasarani area serves as a subsidiary branch of a larger sanctuary located approximately500 meters away. The need for additional capacity prompted the creation of this compact sanctuary, designed to allow for future expansion as the congregation grows. The material selection includes steel as the primary structural system and exposed interlocking bricks on both the interior and exterior, facilitating adaptation to the congregation’s evolving needs.

The Casa Roca design draws inspiration from the pre-existing basaltic rock found on the site. The facade incorporates bespoke stone pieces that jut out, mimicking the natural rock formations. Additionally, a crevice-inspired opening within the housing block allows more natural light to penetrate the interior. To enhance daylighting in the spatially constrained site, ‘unshading’ techniques include balcony orientation away from main windows and maximizing solar exposure using bay windows. The alternating positions of bay windows minimize shading on units below.

This apartment block in Ruaka Town was meticulously designed to offer a unique living experiencein one of Nairobi’s fastest-growing areas. Employing a decontruction technique, we treated negative space as equally significant as built space. This approach is evident in the brick cladding on exterior and the balcony railing system, which incorporates unbuilt masonry blocks. Inside, especially in the kitchen, the combination of open and closed cabinetry forms a bespoke and visually striking composition, encouraging tenants to engage creatively with the design.

The project, situated in the densely populated Githurai 45 area of Nairobi, aimed to create affordable high-quality housing with amenities that are typically associated with wealth. Despite a strict budget, the design prioritized density while ensuring ample daylight exposure for the units through intelligent design techniques. Additionally, we introduced design interventions to prevent a monotonous facade, playing with colour and balcony arrangements. The resulting design maintains its duality without being overly conspicuous.

The housing complex comprises three 3-bedroom units and two-bedroom units, all situated on a plot under 2200 square feet. To create this visually striking compact housing complex in a gated community in Kasarani, Nairobi County, spatial optimization techniques were employed. These techniques included strategic placement and orientation of stairs, open-plan spaces, multifunctional areas, and integrated storage. The design has not only become an icon and landmark within the estate but also offers an excellent on investement for the developer.

This 4-bedroom, 4-bath residential build is located in a serene estate on the outskirts of Nairobi. It was purposefully designed as a haven for a bold young couple, providing an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. The architecture serves as a timeless backdrop for family life, where cherished childhood memories can flourish, and the couple can grow together . The design thoughtfully distinguishes different functions within the building, creating easily recognizable clusters that form a visually captivating composition. For instance, public spaces like the lounge stand out with their distinct scale and materiallity,demanding attention, while private areas like the bedrooms exhibit subtlety and understated elegance.

The project, situated 2 kilometers from Nyahururu town off the Gilgil-Nyahururu road , features a six-floor building hosting twenty-five two and one-bedroom units of varying sizes. The dynamic facade is intentionally designed to create a visually striking architectural expression while optimizing shade from the harsh morning and evening sun. Additionally , the project aims to set a precedent in the sparsely built area, serving as an iconic welcome to Nyahururu and a trendsetter for housing in this rapidly growing town, often regarded as the country’s breadbasket.

DNA Suites was developed from an exclusive distruptive typology in the housing market we call vernacular prototyping where the entire built structure is designed on the framework of a stardard studio unit where two studio units combine seamlessly to create a one bedroom typology and three a two bed-room typology. These three typologies seamlessly blend with each other and deliberate design interventions ensure the adaptable use between the different typologies with minimal distruption .The form of the building further enhances this design with distinct framing of the DNA strands (standard studio unit) and use of locally available materials in their natural form to achieve this.

The retail store designed for clothing storefront in an upmarket upperhill area . The space was designed to provide an airy and open plan contemprary interior organized around a structural column dissecting its centre .The shop which flanks a pedestrian street also is designed to provide deep views into the shop from street utilizing transparency and optimizing visual lines to attract customers . Light and color is utilized to draw focus and delineate different parts of the retail store and create an all together harmonious composition.
LOCATION: UPPERHILL, NAIROBI COUNTY
The project brief in transfoming a clothing store to a cafe and restaurant with a key focus in re-use and recycling of materials. 80% of materials utilized in the construction was derived from the former clothing store, carefully restored or upcycled to give a new lease of life. The compact nature of the cafe necessisated various spatial saving techniques including adaptable furniture for optimal utility.

The tyre retail centre was designed to provide unique and visually striking display for tyres and retail centre from a reclaimed container stall. The design focused on giving prominence to the display area by providing a contrasting backdrop to the tyres that stood out and demanded attention. Similalry the transparent and open feel incorporated into the design created a welcoming atmosphere despite the significant spatial constraints offered by the shipping container structure.
